Not every championship is won on a playing field.

Some are won in classrooms.

Some are won in neighborhoods.

Some are won when successful people decide that their greatest achievement isn’t what they accomplish for themselves—but what they make possible for others.

I was reminded of that while attending the ESPYS Humanitarian Awards in New York as a guest of Eat. Learn. Play., the foundation established by Stephen and Ayesha Curry. During the evening, Stephen Curry was recognized with the Muhammad Ali Award, honoring his commitment to creating opportunities for children and families through education, nutrition, and access to play.

As someone whose work is rooted in expanding opportunities for young people through sport, it was inspiring to witness one of the world’s most accomplished athletes being celebrated not simply for his performance, but for his purpose.

Too often, we think of philanthropy as something that happens after success.

But the most impactful leaders understand that success creates responsibility.

The greatest platforms are not measured by how many people are watching.

They are measured by how many lives are changed because someone chose to act.

That philosophy resonates deeply with me because it reflects the partnerships Playing for Keeps seeks to build every day.

We believe that businesses, professional athletes, philanthropists, nonprofit organizations, educators, and community leaders each hold a piece of the solution.

No single organization can create healthier communities alone.

No one foundation can build every field.

No one athlete can inspire every child.

But when people with different strengths unite around a common purpose, extraordinary things become possible.

Our own partnership with Eat. Learn. Play. is a reflection of that belief.

Together, we are helping expand access to high-quality places where children can play, learn, and thrive. It is a reminder that philanthropy is at its best when it creates lasting infrastructure, meaningful partnerships, and opportunities that extend far beyond a single event or donation.

The most inspiring part of the evening wasn’t simply seeing a basketball icon honored.

It was seeing how influence can be transformed into impact.

As Los Angeles enters an unprecedented era of major sporting events, more athletes, leagues, corporations, and foundations will have opportunities to invest in our communities.

My hope is that they look beyond sponsorships and ceremonies.

That they ask a deeper question.

What legacy will remain after the applause fades?

Because the true measure of success is not found in trophies or awards.

It is found in the children whose lives are forever changed because someone chose to invest in their future.

Every field that is built.

Every playground that is restored.

Every coach who is trained.

Every child who discovers confidence through sport.

These are the victories that endure.

Those are the championships that matter most.

Because every child deserves more than a moment.

Every child deserves a place to play.
