The Community
Playing for Keeps activated their mission at MacArthur Park in collaboration with LA City Recreation & Parks at a community gathering in the heart of Los Angeles. The goal was to bring sports, play, and community engagement to a neighborhood where access to quality recreational infrastructure remains limited—and to demonstrate how youth sports can transform communities.
The Activation
Playing for Keeps set up an interactive pop-up activation featuring hands-on sports activities, youth engagement, and a showcase of their infrastructure work. The booth presented the organization’s three-pillar approach: Heart (investing in community), Hope (building infrastructure), and Health (transforming lives through sport).
Visitors—families, youth, and community members—experienced the power of play firsthand through sports activities, spoke with Playing for Keeps staff, and learned about the nonprofit’s model for building turf fields and youth programs in underserved neighborhoods nationwide.

Community Connection
Positioned at one of the city’s most active community gathering spaces, the activation reached hundreds of residents who otherwise might not engage with youth sports equity work. The event reinforced Playing for Keeps’ commitment to meeting communities where they are, not asking them to come to the organization.
The Outcome
The activation brought Playing for Keeps’ work directly into a high-traffic community space, making their mission visible and accessible to families and residents. It demonstrated their approach: meet communities where they are, activate around play and joy, and connect people to the opportunity and infrastructure that sport provides.
